What is Spirituality? Learn how to draw attention on controlling self-mind

By Moumi Majumdar

A prodigious spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda ignited crores of souls through his enriching speeches and ideas. His powerful words inspired individuals to discover their inner strength and serve others unconditionally.
Through his famous speech at the first World Parliament of Religions on the site of the present-day Art Institute in 1893, Swami Vivekananda made people realise the importance of unity among different beliefs.

Swami Ji once said, “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life; dream of it; think of it; live on that idea. Let the brain, the body, muscles, nerves, and every part of your body be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, and this is the way great spiritual giants are produced.”Gradually, research shows that spirituality can benefit both the mind and the body. Whether someone is suffering from cancer or clinical depression, spiritual exercises aid them in increasing acceptance, decreasing negative emotions, finding meaning, and deepening their bonds with others.

Issues such as poor self-esteem, low confidence, lack of self-control, and fear of daily tasks and challenges can be conquered with the guidance of spirituality.

Ways to learn and start spirituality

Research says individuals who have never learned to draw upon spiritual resources can do so quite. It is a nearly universal human trait that people approach in different ways but aim for the same goals.

Whether you consider yourself a spiritual one or not, these are the ways to refresh your mind, get focused, and facilitate breakthroughs in all aspects of life.

 Meditation

Meditation is the tool to help in connecting with someone’s spiritual side even stronger. This is the key way that brings a person into the present moment.

Get aware of inner-emotions

Being spiritual doesn’t mean that an individual is unphased by the challenges of being human. After we start acknowledging our own feelings, no matter how painful the feeling is, the inside growth takes place.

Gratitude

Gratitude is one of those things that can do wonders for the mental state. (Add more)

Stay in touch with nature

A key method to connect with oneself and the world around is to head outside, connect with nature and simply observe the surroundings.

The key to grounding is to be comfortable and truly feel the earth in whatever way works best for you.

Swami Vivekananda said the easy way to get hold of the mind is to sit quietly and let it drift where it will for a while. Hold fast to the idea, “I am the witness watching my mind drifting. The mind is not I.” Thereafter, see it and think as if it were a thing entirely apart from yourself. Identify yourself with God, never with matter or with the mind. The spiritual leader also said that hold to the idea, “I am not the mind; I see that I am thinking; I am watching my mind act’, and each day the identification of yourself with thought and feeling will grow less until at last you can entirely separate yourself from the mind and know it to be apart from yourself.”
